Education System in Haiti

Haiti is officially known as the Republic of Haiti. Its official languages are Haitian Creole and French. Haiti is situated in the Greater Antillean archipelago. The Education System of Haiti is modeled on the French system. It includes a number of public and private institutes for the Higher Education. The literacy rates of Haiti is nearly 60%.

Education in Haiti starts at preschool, which is followed by 9 years of Fundamental Education divided into three cycles; first cycle, second cycle and third cycle. Primary education is compulsory for children between 6 and 11. Secondary education in Haiti comprises 4 years of schooling. Starting at the second cycle of Fundamental Education, students have the option to study vocational subjects. 

The school system in Haiti is dominated by the non-public sector, whether for-profit, faith-based or run by non-governmental organizations. More than 80% of primary schools are non-public, enrolling more than 80% of all primary school children.

Vocational training in Haiti is given at different levels between the second half of secondary school (10 years of education) and the first half of university (13 years of education). 

Higher education in Haiti is provided by 4 regional public universities including the State University of Haiti (Universite d'Etat d'Haiti, UEH), 4 other public institutions each associated with their respective ministries, and the private universities and institutions.
